Why do we need a
crisis line?
We do not have to suffer in silence. We do not have to be strong. We do not have to put everyone above ourselves.
At the Black Women’s Institute for Health, we recognize that Black women experience unique challenges and that our needs are often distinct. We’re committed to creating a Crisis Line specifically designed for Black women, by Black women, to ensure that you have access to support that understands and speaks to your lived experiences. This service will be tailored to provide culturally relevant support and care, with an understanding of the specific systemic and societal issues we face.
Stay tuned for updates on our Crisis Line initiative, where we aim to provide a safe space for Black women seeking mental health support. Until then, don’t hesitate to reach out if you need immediate help.

As Black women we are disproportionately suffering from mental health issues, often exacerbated by the intersectional challenges of racism, sexism, and socio-economic barriers. These challenges are compounded by a healthcare system that lacks the cultural competency to adequately support us. This means that we… as pillars of our communities, are facing mental health struggles in isolation, with few culturally attuned resources available.
